What-To-Bring List

Don't forget to check the What-To-Bring List before you pack!

Packing Tips—As you may be aware, bed bugs have become a spreading concern across America. Since we house numerous campers throughout the year we are at a higher risk for bed bugs. Here are some preventative measures you can take to help insure bed bugs don’t find their way to camp or back to your home.

• Only send clothes and bedding that have recently been cleaned and run through the dryer on high heat. Wipe down all non-cloth items with a warm washrag before sending to camp. If you are sending luggage or items that have recently been in high risk areas (hotels, camps, dorms, apartments, airports, etc.) check them for signs of bed bugs and treat them accordingly.

• Pack all your items in a soft duffle bag that you have run through the dryer. Soft duffles can be purchased at Wal-Mart or other similar stores. Or, if this method is not preferred, pack belongings in a container (plastic tub, trunk) that you can completely clean-out and sanitize (not a suitcase).

• When you return home, run all of your camper’s belongings, including the bag, and what they have on through the washer and dryer. The dryer on high heat is the most effective way to kill hard-to-see bed bugs. Wipe down well, and look through anything that can’t go in the dryer. Check for signs of bed bugs on all belongings before you bring them back in to your house.

We have bed-bug proof mattresses, we train our staff to look for signs of bed bugs, and we inspect for bedbugs between every group using our facilities. We don’t expect bed bugs to disrupt our program this summer but want to make you aware of the possibility. Please take all of these precautions for your home and ours.

FRONTIER CAMP WHAT TO BRING LIST

The following is a list of items to bring to camp.  All non-bedding items need to be packed in one container.  Campers may bring a large duffel, plastic tub, large suitcase, footlocker/trunk, etc. as long as all of their items are in one container.  Please make sure that all items are properly marked with your child’s name:

q  Spending Money—bring about $40 to $50 for snacks, drinks, camp video and photos, and a T-shirt, hat, or other camp merchandise if desired.  This money will be collected at check-in; we do not allow money to be kept in the cabins.  Unused spending money will be refunded as cash on the last day of camp.  You may prepay this amount prior to camp once the camper balance has been paid.

q  Bedding—a pillow and sheets/blanket or a sleeping bag.  *If your child is a bed wetter, please send several sets of sheets—preferably similar in design and color.

q  Toiletries—include towels (up to 3 bath and 1 beach), washcloths, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and shampoo.

q  Swimsuit—note for all girl campers: no two-piece suits, halters (one or two piece), tankinis, or one-piece suits that expose the midriff.

q  Sun Block – write camper’s name on bottle; look for a brand designed for children.

q  A complete age-appropriate Bible (Old and New Testaments) with the camper’s name on or in it.

q  Dirty clothes bag – write camper’s name on it and make sure you leave camp with it on Saturday!

q  Closed-toed shoes for nighttime, the climbing wall, and closed-toed and closed-heeled shoes and jeans for those taking Horsemanship; also for those riding horses during free time (please bring cowboy boots or boots with heels if possible).

q  Sandals and/or water shoes (optional)—for wear during the day.  Closed-toed shoes are required at night time.

q  Tennis shoes—for wear during games and in the evening; new, expensive, or white pairs are discouraged.

q  Five complete outfits (at least five)—comfortable shirt, shorts or pants, socks and underwear.  Please note that new/designer clothing is greatly discouraged.  Please pack items that will not cause undue stress if torn, stained, broken or misplaced!

q  Theme meal costume (optional)—for the Friday night theme meal.  Please make sure your camper understands that this is his/her outfit for Friday night!  (An email will be sent prior to your camp session that will give you this information.)

q  Pajamas—or something to sleep in.

q  Water Bottle—label with the camper’s name.  Available for purchase at the camp’s General Store.

q  Bug Spray (optional) —most often bugs are not a problem here, but many children want the protection.

q  Flashlight (optional)—send a cheap one if possible.  Available for purchase at the camp’s General Store.

q  Disposable camera (optional)—make sure to write the camper’s name on the camera (no digital cameras allowed).  Available for purchase at the camp’s General Store.

q  Light Backpack(optional) —for holding gear needed during the day (e.g. sunscreen, bug spray, water bottle, towel, disposable camera).  Available for purchase at the camp’s General Store.

q  Personal ball glove (optional)—We do provide gloves for those who wish play baseball on Friday afternoon.

q  Skateboard/roller blades, helmet, and wrist, elbow, and knee pads for those wishing to participate in skate park during Bonus Activity Time.  Make sure all items are marked with the camper name, and please remember to take these items home on Saturday.

q  Campers wishing to bring other personal sports equipment (e.g. archery equipment, fishing poles) must receive permission to do so from the Camp Director prior to camp.  These items will be stored in the camp office when not in use.

Ø  Please mark all clothing items with your child’s full first and last name and counsel them about being careful not to lose his/her clothing during their week at camp.  Usually problems of this nature arise when the child is getting ready to leave camp.  Frontier Camp does not take responsibility for recovering lost or misplaced items of clothing or equipment.  Your child’s clothing items and equipment are their responsibility.  We will place lost-and-found articles on the porch of the General Store between the Chapel and Dining Hall.  Please check there before leaving on Saturday.  Lost items should be reported to the office as soon as possible.   Frontier Camp will donate unclaimed items to a charity.

Dress Code

For some, the dress code at Frontier Camp can become a source of tension, especially among girl campers. Unfortunately, in today’s society, the “less is more” mentality is displayed through low cut jeans and shorts, tight tank tops, and short shorts. Please understand that Frontier Camp is committed to protecting the innocence of your child in our camp setting. The camp staff determines the appropriateness of camper attire. With this in mind, we will discretely ask campers who are inappropriately or inadequately dressed (immodest swimsuits, rolled up cheerleader shorts or short shorts, shorts with lettering on the seat, tight pants, extremely tight or revealing T-shirts, shirts revealing the midriff, spaghetti strapped shirts and dresses, etc.) to change.  Please help us avoid these situations by ensuring that your camper’s clothing choices are conservative.  We appreciate your sensitivity with this subject matter, as it is our goal to create the best camp environment possible.

·         Halter tops, low cut clothing, or clothing exposing the midriff will not be allowed.  Bra straps may not show.

·         No spaghetti strap shirts.  Shirts may not be low cut around the sleeves or neck.

·         No excessively tight clothing.

·         Shorts must be modest and extend at least to middle of the thigh.  Shorts must have an inseam of at least 3 inches. Shorts and pants must be secured and worn around waist.  Underwear may not show.

·         No rolling of shorts or flipping of waist bands.  No graphics or lettering on the seat.

·         No shorts or pants with holes or rips.

·         Modest one piece bathing suits only.  No halters (one or two piece), tankinis, monokinis, or suits that expose the midriff area.  No speedo-style bathing suits for guys.

·         No clothing advertising alcohol or displaying vulgar, racial, or “gray area” language or inferences.
