Beginnings

Updated: Mar 6, 2022

Genesis 1:1-3 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.”

We have officially started our 2011 Summer Camps this week with our Home School Jr. Camp ending tomorrow morning. ‘Beginnings’ is the theme for our Jr. Camp daily Bible Drama and I though it fitting to briefly consider it as we begin our summer.

“In the beginning God” are some of the sweetest words in scripture. God was in and before the beginning. He created everything which includes the universe (Heb 3:11), the earth (Gen 1), and everything else (Col 1). He created sunrises and oceans, rainy days and cool breezes, lakes and fields, and He even created campers and counselors!! I am so thankful to serve and be able to love a God who is so big that He can and has created all this, and yet He still wants each individual human to be able to know Him and know how much He loves us. Wow – what a God!

We have had an amazing week here at camp. We’ve learned more about creation, and thus more about the Creator. We’ve had tons of fun playing in and with His creation – on the lake, at the rodeo, in the woods, and most importantly with each other. This has been a great start and beginning to this summer – all because of our Lord Jesus Christ, the very word of God in the flesh.

Our Holy God who began the earth many years ago and created life has also began a good work in believers today (Phil 1) through the Holy Spirit. He did this because He loves us dearly (John 3:16). It is a good work He is faithful to complete.

This summer He is beginning and continuing good things in the lives of both the campers and the staff. I am thankful and excited to be here, to be able to witness His work in our lives as we begin another summer of ministry here at Frontier Camp.

If you are not able to join us this summer (maybe your children are, but you can’t stay, or maybe you are unable to join us this summer for many other reasons), please stop for a moment and consider how your summer is beginning. As you make and execute your summer plans, let me challenge you (and in doing so myself) to not forget about THE beginning – mainly to not forget about THE Creator. Whether your summer has started off spectacularly like ours has or it has already had some bumps in getting going, please know and be encouraged by the fact that the Creator of all things created you specifically and individually and He loves you dearly. If you have already begun a relationship with Jesus Christ, know that He will continue to work in your life as you spend time with Him. If you don’t have a relationship with the Lord, why not begin one today?
