Different Viewpoint

I really enjoy landscape photography as a way to capture the moments of my life, especially when I’m exploring a new place and removing myself from distractions of everyday life. I want to remember the setting…where I’m at, what I’m doing, and the beauty surrounding me. I love to capture the landscapes that remind me of the power and might of our God; the beauty He created in the wilderness.

“For since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” – Romans 1:20

I’ve found that, when possible, I need to take advantage of the opportunity to get away in order to be reminded of His power and to see the beauty in the things around me.

Here’s a pic of my pup, O’Reilly, while we were camping at Big Bend Ranch State Park about a year ago. This is just a simple shot of him in the back of our car. If this is all I showed you, you’d just think I have a cute pup. You may notice the mundane details like the seat belt or the vehicle’s dome light, but ultimately, you’d keep scrolling, likely unimpressed.

What the first picture doesn’t capture though, is the setting we were in at the park, seen above. SO much more to see than just a cute pup and the interior of a vehicle! The beauty, vastness, and intricate details of this spot are awe inspiring to me. I love that you can sit and stare for hours, taking in the mesa, the layers of earth, and the stream far below the viewpoint. (Fun fact: those mountains in the background? That’s actually Mexico!)

Seeing this photo and others like it may convince you to take a trip to Big Bend Ranch, or maybe it reminds you of your own favorite getaway spot. Either way, I encourage you to find some time to take a step back and gain a different viewpoint, to see the bigger picture. We are so connected to our devices and busy with daily life that it’s easy to get distracted and totally miss the beauty that God has set right in front of us. We forget to slow down long enough to reconnect with one another and with the Lord, to remember the purpose He has for us and be reminded of the dreams He’s placed in our heart.
