Haiti Day Camp Update 2

Updated: Mar 1, 2022

It is honestly so strange to sit here typing an update about the last day of camp because I can’t believe it has gone by so fast! But we had a really great day today. Activities, meals, and teaching times all ran smoothly, and the leadership team did a great job of keeping everything going.  This allowed us the chance to take tons of pictures, play dozens of hand clapping games, and have short conversations with the kids and leaders with the Creole we know.

During this trip, it felt like it took the kids a little bit longer to warm up to us.  Maybe this is because we didn’t have time to visit the village for a play day before camp started like our teams often do;  however, today it felt like we were all old friends. We laughed and played and sang and were so sad to see them leave at the end of the day. We hope to see some of them at church tomorrow!

Smith and the leaders taught lessons about the life of Jonah today.  The kids did a craft project about Jonah and memorized John 14:15. After the final Bible Drama, Smith and Daphne ran a pop quiz over the three days of lessons, and the winners received a special prize from Betty!

Once all the kids and leaders had left for the day, Summer, Caleb, and I hiked up to the cross on “the Attic” (the hill behind the campsite) to watch the sun going down. Then we spent the evening helping the camp staff take down decorations from the big Christmas event that they put on for the village on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Tomorrow morning, we will head to church in the village to hear Smith preach and worship with the local believers – many of whom were working at camp this week! We are not yet allowing ourselves to think about the fact that we only have one full day left in Haiti, but we are praying for the Lord to guide our steps and open our eyes to every opportunity to love and serve.
