Driving through Houston Wednesday morning I began to see TxDOT signs warning residents, “Tropical Storm forming, fill your car with gas.” That was my first indication of Harvey and of course the news, warnings and weather worsened from there.
We have had rain here at Frontier Camp for 48 hours straight. Thankfully, although steady, it has been light and we haven’t experienced any flooding and the lakes remain just above normal. What we’re hearing and reading from so many camp friends however, is devastating. Flooded homes, rescues via boat and more rain on the way. May God’s Word be a source of comfort to you in these times. Here is a Psalm I have turned to this morning:
“The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength; indeed, the world is established, firm and secure. Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity. The seas have lifted up, Lord, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea— the Lord on high is mighty. Your statutes, Lord, stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days.” –Psalm 93
This Psalm says it all. God is mightier than Harvey and the Gulf. The waters have spoken with their terrible voice but God has responded louder and clearer in the midst of the chaos. He and His Word stand immovable though the waters move through.
