I asked a group of twenty preschoolers, ages 3 to 5, that question just a few days ago, and those are the responses I received back. Typical answers from young kids, and needless to say, created the perfect opportunity to teach them the true reason we celebrate Easter.
Every believer knows at least part of the Easter story. This story is the heart of the gospel. Without understanding Jesus died for our sins and was resurrected three days later, there is no understanding of salvation. And yet, it is a story we hear referenced so often, we can begin to gloss over the details and awe-inspiring nature of what actually happened.
Egg hunts, sunrise services, crawfish boils (my personal favorite Easter tradition), bunny-shaped cakes, or whatever else you have planned for this weekend, don’t forget to also set some time aside to read the Easter story. Take time to teach your kids about what Easter is really about. Take time for yourself to contemplate on the ultimate sacrifice made for you over two thousand years ago. Take time to worship God for what He did. Take time for the real reason for Easter.
“Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him.
