Belize Update 1 - January 2, 2025

Updated: Jan 4

What a great first day of our trip!

The team all woke up around 3:30 AM, and then ate breakfast tacos made by the team’s own Cierra Espinoza. We prayed, then rolled out of camp around 4:45, had a smooth 2 hour drive to IAH, with almost every team member taking the opportunity to catch up on sleep.

We checked all of our baggage at the airport and then departed around 9:45 AM, with a quick 2 hour flight to Belize City. After we arrived in Belize, we went through customs at a surprisingly quick pace and then loaded into the van to head to Samuel’s Sanctuary.

We made two stops, the first at a supermarket to grab a few snacks and drinks, and then to the Country Barn for delicious ice cream.

Afterward, we arrived at Samuel’s Sanctuary to settle into our dorms around 3:50 PM, were given a tour of the place by our host Malkien Espino, and then we all hung around in hammocks until dinner. We ate a delectable collection of mashed potatoes, chicken, steamed veggies, fried plantain, and some sort of citrus juice that was very well received by the team.

After dinner, Dino gave us a little orientation of what to expect for the week, and then Will Raines led worship, and Matt Henderson gave the team a nice devo over Titus.

We then prepped for day camp the next day, and then it was time for us to all catch up on some desperately needed sleep.

Good night from Belize,

-Kate Chodrow & Catherine Russell
