Belize Update 3 - January 4th, 2025

Today was yet another beautiful day in the Belizean mountains. We started our day at 7:15 with a devo in Psalm 2. We had pancakes, bacon, eggs, and fresh coffee and juice for breakfast. After breakfast, we finished up some last-minute planning for the day's activities, including bible drama and sports. We left around 10 o’clock to head to the village.

When we arrived we were already being greeted by happy children. In the morning we divided the children into two groups by age to split between kickball and playing with our rainbow parachute. We also played a Belizian version of American Eagle 123, which we named Toucan Toucan 123. After a quick game of red light, green light, we bid the kids farewell and headed back to Samuel’s Sanctuary for lunch.

Lunch today was grilled cheese chicken, rice, beans, and pasta salad. We loaded up around 12:45, headed to the Country Barn for a scoop of ice cream, and then drove to the village. When we got there we began a rotation of archery, sports, and crafts. The craft was a popsicle stick yarn star. The sports rotation played a camp classic of steal the bacon and a bacon-driven red light, green light. After the 25-minute rotations were over we gathered under the pavilion to continue our Bible drama.

We have been going over the story of Joseph. Today we taught them how Joseph was thrown in prison by Potiphar because of the accusations made by his wife. Today was one of the girls, Kimberly’s, birthday so we sang her an FC birthday song. After that, we bid the kids farewell at around 3 o’clock.

When the team got back some of us changed in preparation for the river while some stayed behind and rested. At the river, Malkein led our team up the river to a waterfall, which was beautiful. We hung out and swam there for around forty minutes, then began our trek back for supper. Supper was barbeque with tortillas, beans, and coleslaw.

After cleaning up dinner we jumped back into Titus for our evening Devo and finished up chapter one. We continued to talk about false teachings and false beliefs that were happening in this chapter, as well as in the world around us, and how we ourselves could fall into that. After our devo, we sat and watched Woodlawn.

This is a movie about the true story of Tony Nathan and the school he attended, Woodlawn. This movie follows the brokenness of integrating segregated schools in Alabama. A man came and shared the Gospel with the football team, leading almost all of them to Christ. This team was then transformed on and off the field and led many others to Christ. After the movie, Matt charged us to remember Daniel’s commitment to the Lord and to always follow him even in the face of adversity, specifically Daniel chapter 1. After the team headed off to bed excited for what the Lord has in store for us tomorrow.
