Our day began with observations of Psalms 100, which has themes of praising the Lord with thanksgiving. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast of over-easy eggs, sausage, fruit, fried jacks, and lime juice. The cooks at Samuel’s Sanctuary are excellent at what they do and we are very thankful for their hard work.
The children met us at the pavilion in St. Margret’s village at 10:00 AM ready to play. We played tag and football (soccer) and did coloring pages until 11:00 when we started a mini church service that included worship and a bible drama. We taught the kids some camp classics, which included Blind Man and Pharoh Pharoh. The motions were tough for the kids at first but they caught on and loved it.
After we finished worship, we continued our bible drama story of Joesph, picking up with Joesph in prison interpreting dreams for the chief cupbearer and baker. We are teaching the kids that God can be trusted in all circumstances. The morning ended too soon and we headed back to Samuel’s Sanctuary for a lunch of mashed potatoes and meatballs.
We returned to the village and had a loosely structured playtime that allowed for most of our team members to have intentional gospel conversations with the kids that we pray the Lord magnifies. We also ate many many coconuts and paternas from the trees surrounding the pavilion.
After dinner, we attended the local Pentecostal church led by Pastor Mario. The service was very impactful for the whole team. We sang songs in Spanish and English , including I have Decided to Follow to Jesus and Angus Dei. The church invited us to sing our own worship songs and share our testimonies. Cathrine Russell and Kate Chodrow shared with the church through a translator and Matt Henderson went up and shared the story of Joesph with the congregation and emphasized that ‘God loves to be trusted’. We also got the honor to witness a husband and wife who came up to the front and accepted Christ during the service. The whole church prayed over them and some tears were shed.
The church was very grateful for our presence and it was deeply impactful to see the Universal Church worshiping the same God across different languages and cultures. We are so thankful to be here and excited to continue the work of the Lord tomorrow.
